Why is Jackson Running?

Why Brent Jackson is Running for Ward 2

Hello,

My name is Brent Jackson, and I am a lifelong resident of Evansville. I have lived in the same home for over 30 years and have remained deeply involved in my neighborhood and the broader community throughout that time.

My community involvement has taken many forms—from being an engaged parent in the EVSC to serving as President of my neighborhood association for more than 15 years. I have also served as both President and Vice President of United Neighborhoods of Evansville and spent over a decade on its Board of Directors. In addition, I have owned and operated a local business for the past 12 years. Through these experiences, I have developed a strong understanding of the needs, concerns, and priorities of our community, which led me to pursue public office.

While representing all of Ward 2 is a broader responsibility than representing a single neighborhood, it is a natural progression of the work I have already been doing. As a neighborhood association president, I have listened to and addressed concerns from hundreds of residents. I have made it a priority to personally visit locations brought to my attention in order to fully understand each situation firsthand.

I have also reviewed zoning change requests, variance applications, and raze orders affecting my neighborhood. As part of that process, I regularly visited sites, spoke directly with residents, and stayed informed on developments so I could provide accurate updates during neighborhood meetings. As a City Councilor, I will continue this hands-on, engaged approach—expanding it to serve the entire ward.

I strongly believe that visibility, accessibility, and responsiveness are essential qualities of effective leadership. Being present in the community, listening to residents, and advocating on their behalf are fundamental responsibilities of a City Councilor. I am committed to upholding these principles and continuing the tradition of dedicated service established in the 2nd Ward.

Thank you for your time, consideration, and support.

Sincerely,
Brent Jackson
