My community story

Connecting Evansville’s neighborhoods

My work with United Neighborhoods of Evansville.

Brent leading a roundtable of neighborhood associations

Making room for neighborhood voices

Through UNOE, I have served as president, vice president, and a board member. The work has connected me with neighborhood leaders and concerns from across Evansville.

Tools that help people connect

My technology background has been useful in neighborhood work. I helped with website development, IT support, neighborhood mapping, and app development so information could be easier to find and use.

Supporting the organization itself

In 2017, I helped update UNOE’s logo. In 2018, I helped with the organization’s move from the Hulman Building to the EVPL Annex. Community organizations need attention to those practical details, too.

Learning from one another

Helping host the 2017 Regional Neighborhood Network Conference was another opportunity to bring neighborhood leaders together. Their experiences and ideas are part of what makes this work valuable.

The lesson I carry forward

A council representative needs to understand more than one street or one organization. My neighborhood work has reinforced the importance of listening across communities and keeping residents connected to the conversation.
