My community story

Working together along Highway 41

A neighborhood project built on persistence and cooperation.

The Highway 41 fence line before neighborhood improvements

Seeing the problem firsthand

In 2010, our neighborhood association began working to address the deteriorating fence line along Highway 41 near Harlan Avenue. Broken fencing, overgrowth, and debris needed attention.

Finding a workable approach

Neighbors, city staff, and INDOT discussed how to replace the fence. We wanted improvement without losing the vegetation that helped separate the neighborhood from the highway.

Doing our part

Neighbors removed fencing and helped clear selected growth and debris. City support included roll-off dumpsters, and a neighbor brought equipment to help with removal.

Following through

By spring 2011, INDOT had replaced fence posts and fencing along the Harlan Avenue alleyway. The result came from collaboration among residents, the City of Evansville, and INDOT.

The kind of leadership I believe in

Visit the site. Hear the concern. Bring the right people together. Keep working toward a practical result. That is an approach I want to carry into City Council.
